This five day Battlefield Study will follow the role of the Royal Engineers and concentrate on sieges and fortifications, culminating in the Battle of Salamanca in 1812. It will cover the Peninsular War period flying into Lisbon and take five days visiting the Lines of Torres Vedras, Elvas, Badajoz, Almeida, Ciudad Rodrigo and Salamanca and then flying out of Madrid.

Outline Itinerary
Sunday 18 June. Fly to Lisbon. Overnight in Lisbon.
Monday 19 June. Visit the Lines of Torres Vedras, Alhandra, Bucelas, Sobral de Monte Agraco and Merida. Overnight in Mérida (Spain).
Tuesday 20 June. Visit the town of Elvas and siege of Badajoz. Overnight in Salamanca.
Wednesday 21 June. Visit Wellington’s HQ in Freineda, the Fortress town of Almeida and siege of Ciudad Rodrigo. Overnight in Fort Concepcion (Spain).
Thursday 22 June. Visit the Salamanca battlefield. Overnight in Salamanca.
Friday 23 June. Depart Salamanca for Madrid. Fly to UK from Madrid.

Movements in the UK and flights are not included but there are plenty of low cost flights available from the UK to Lisbon and from Madrid.
