Why are the Lines of Torres Vedras still important today?

The Lines of Torres Vedras are an important historical site, as valuable as any battlefield, fortification or building.  They still show the huge effort put in by the Portuguese to build and also, the ingenuity of its designers.

They are a tourist attraction bringing visitors and money into the area. They are a great reason to tour the area, sampling the food, wine and wildlife.

They also represent the special relationship between Portugal and Great Britain which continues today with the longest alliance in the world; 630 years in 2015.
