The Anglo-Portuguese Society has arranged the 2015 lecture to be held at the Cavalry and Guards Club. The speaker will be Marcus de la Poer Beresford, a descendent of Marshal William Carr Beresford. The subject will be 'From want of arms they can do nothing against the enemy' to 'fighting cocks' : the regeneration and reform of the Portuguese army by William Carr Beresford and Miguel Pereira Forjaz.'
The AGM will be held at 16:00 on 20 July 2015 at the offices of Withers LLP, Old Bailey, London. Details of the AGM and hopefully a speaker to follow.
We have booked Apsley House for the afternoon of 20 October to commemorate the Official Portuguese Lines of Torres Vedras Day. The plan is for a tour of the house followed by a talk by Professor Malynn Newitt on 'Beresford and Portugal, post Peninsular War'. Refreshments will be available. It is hoped that we can end the evening with a meal. Full details including timing and costs will follow.
