The municipality of Torres Vedras organised a conference in November 2014 to commemorate the life of the Portuguese Engineer Franciso Antonio Ciera. On 7 November 2014, a workshop was held with Rui de Sa Leal speaking on the types telegraphs used on the lines, Carlos Cunha speaking on the construction of the replica Ciera telegraph and myself speaking about Edmund Mulcaster and the British use of telegraphs in 1810. The was also a wonderful exhibition with replicas of many different telegraphs. Lunch followed with a themed 19 century lunch and then on to the official naming of a street in Torres Vedras after Ciera.
