Lines of Torres Vedras Conference, London,  21 October 2017

Details are firming up now for the conference.  Confirmed speakers are Charles Esdaile, Nick Lipscombe, Professor Mendo Henriques and myself.  There is likely to be a fifth, well known speaker.
The event will be held at the Cavalry and Guards Club in London with a provisional cost of £50 including lunch. Registration will be at 9:30, kick-off at 10:00 and finishing at 17:00.

We are also planning a dinner the night before, Friday 20 October, at the Cavalry and Guards Club.  Cost is likely to be around £75 including wine.

​Booking is not open yet, but we would welcome expressions of interest.

ROYAL ENGINEERS HISTORICAL SOCIETY BATTLEFIELD STUDY TO PORTUGAL & SPAIN, 18th – 23rd June 2017

Introduction
This five day Battlefield Study will follow the role of the Royal Engineers and concentrate on sieges and fortifications, culminating in the Battle of Salamanca in 1812. It will cover the Peninsular War period flying into Lisbon and take five days visiting the Lines of Torres Vedras, Elvas, Badajoz, Almeida, Ciudad Rodrigo and Salamanca and then flying out of Madrid.

Alhandra, Bucelas, Sobral de Monte Agraço and Ciudad Rodrigo
Fortifications at Elvas and Badajoz

Outline Itinerary
Sunday 18 June. Fly to Lisbon. Overnight in Lisbon.
Monday 19 June. Visit the Lines of Torres Vedras, Alhandra, Bucelas, Sobral de Monte Agraco and Merida. Overnight in Mérida (Spain).
Tuesday 20 June. Visit the town of Elvas and siege of Badajoz. Overnight in Salamanca.
Wednesday 21 June. Visit Wellington’s HQ in Freineda, the Fortress town of Almeida and siege of Ciudad Rodrigo. Overnight in Fort Concepcion (Spain).
Thursday 22 June. Visit the Salamanca battlefield. Overnight in Salamanca.
Friday 23 June. Depart Salamanca for Madrid. Fly to UK from Madrid.
3 and 4 star hotels, full board, all in-country transport and all entrance fees and guides. Cost £500
Single supplement £150
Places will be on a first come first served basis
Movements in the UK and flights are not included but there are plenty of low cost flights available from the UK to Lisbon and from Madrid.
