CAAL wishes to set up a route more interesting than ever; to involve a staff more committed than ever; to receive participants more pleased than ever;… to say it all, to have a stronger party than ever before.
So, mark up your calendar: October 11th is the day to participate in the 10th Marcha dos Fortes®. More detailed information will soon be available on this site.
MARCHA DOS FORTES® is a long distance walking meeting – the largest annually undertaken in Portugal – which, throughout 43 km, traverses the magnificent hilly setting where, in early XIX century, the Portuguese people, under great secrecy, undertook frantic efforts to erect the array of interconnecting fortifications which have forced the invading French Napoleonic Army to turn back without crossing to Lisbon. Historically known as the “Lines of Torres Vedras”, many of those fortifications still stand in a preserved condition, and offer the walkers with many a pretext to rest, refresh and enjoy the splendid and varied views.
