Ultramarathon 2016

29/10/2015

First details of next year's event from António Teixeira Duarte.

On May 15, 2016, we are honouring all those who designed, built and defended the Lines of Torres Vedras through a non-competitive and charity race.

The event consists of three parts divided into stages of 3 to 6 miles each adding up to 62 miles. Participants may enroll in one or more parts, both individually and forming relay teams.
The first part is 30 km long, departing at 5:00 from the “Forte da Casa” Lines of Torres Vedras Interpretation Centre, passing by the Aguieira Fort, the A-do-Mourão mill, the Carvalha Fort and ending in Alqueidão Fort where all participants will join up.
The second part, which starts of in Alqueidão Fort at 8:45, has as notable landmarks the Wellington Headquarters, the Archeira and Feiteira Forts and ends in Forte de S. Vicente, where there is another regrouping at the end of other 30 km.
The third part, the longest leg of the race, with 40 km long, starts at 12:50 in the Fort of St. Vincent and climbs to the top of the Serra do Socorro, after which brings us to the two Enxara Forts, and to the forts that are located inside the Tapada de Mafra: Milhariça, Sonível and Juncal.
In some of the stages, horse riders will be closely following the runners.
The mythical 100 km of the Lines of Torres Vedras will be accomplished once again.
In Mafra, at the end the day, all regroup to celebrate our successful journey.
